Sisk Rail has completed projects for a wide range of Train Operating Companies across all sectors and territories of the rail industry. Module-AR Limited were recently awarded the contract to design, manufacture and install a 10 bay structure to be used as a Train Driver Simulator for Great Western Railway at their Reading station.
The 2,500kg Southern Rail Class 387 Cab Simulator System will be installed on a solid concrete floor foundation within the modular training facility. Other rooms in the building include 2 No. 39m² Teaching spaces with an internal 49dB acoustic bi-folding floor mounted partition, desks, seating and computer equipment. An Instructor Station with three repeat displays to show the status of the cab simulator session and seating for up to 10 observers facing an interactive smartboard was also installed. Finally, the Simulator room with the 2,500kg Simulator Cab includes blackout curtains, to prevent light pollution to the projected vision system, and a server rack completing the interior of the Off-Site construction.
A superior than standard 2.5m internal ceiling height (to accommodate the size of the Simulator Cab), Primavera carpet tiles, Plastisol (plastic coated steel) walls, plinth & fascia, UPVC double glazed windows with external wire mesh window guards, standalone fire alarm & intruder alarm systems and Heat & Cool air conditioning were fitted to ensure the building is robust, maintenance free & hard-wearing, yet comfortable, for the Great Western Railway employees.
Despite tough logistical problems, such as an extremely low bridge before the entrance to the site entrance to traverse, Module-AR Limited overcame these difficulties to install the modules without fuss or hassle to the Great Western Railway site.
This exciting project came to fruition due to Module-AR Limited’s outstanding reputation with Sisk Rail, our Achilles RISQS Accreditation and our vast experience working within the Rail sector.
