Trafford College is one of the leading providers of education and training in Manchester, offering quality, responsive provision which meets the needs of young people, adults, and employers alike. The College has invested £50m over the past few years in world-class buildings and facilities. The £15m STEM centre provides the opportunity to ensure that Trafford and Greater Manchester stay at the forefront of Science and Technology innovation.
As part of this overall investment, Trafford College required a 52 week hire of a temporary teaching block featuring 4 No. Classrooms. Included within this work was the dismantling and removal of an existing old 8 No. module building which Module-AR removed without hassle and, more importantly, without any disturbance to the College which remained open throughout the construction period.
Module-AR Limited were awarded the contract to provide the temporary teaching block for South Trafford College which consisted of Plastisol (plastic coated steel) walls, plinth & fascia for a hard-wearing, robust and secure exterior. Steel columns and doors with multi point locking, UPVC lockable windows with restrictors & wire mesh guards, an acrylic canopy and entrance steps & ramps complete the structures’ exterior.
The Off-Site constructed building was designed with 4 No. 55.5m² classrooms, each fitted with Polyflor Standard XL Vinyl flooring, vertical blinds to the windows, notice boards and whiteboards with projector screens. Standalone fire alarm and intruder alarm systems were also included. This ensured that despite the building being a temporary solution, it still felt and performed like a permanent building.
The modules were manufactured at Module-AR’s factory in Hull, Yorkshire, in just 2 weeks. Only 1 day was required to deliver the modules and the full project was completed in 6 weeks. This is up to 50% faster than if the project was constructed traditionally.
Words from the client
Derek Fabby, Estates Manager at Trafford College, commented: “We wish to express our appreciation following recent installation of the modular classrooms and for the efficient and timely manner in which our instructions were fulfilled.
The communication, organisation and planning for the installation was excellent with the result that the college had little to do other than receive the modular classrooms on site. The quality of the modular buildings including all its fixtures and fittings has been much appreciated by the curriculum staff.
It is also worth commenting that the quotation for the provision and installation of the modular building was very competitive in relation to the market place.“
