Network Rail – Leeds

  • Client Network Rail
  • Project size – 360m²
  • Completion – 10 weeks
  • 2 Storey MDU Facility
  • Refectory, Locker rooms, Store Rooms & Welfare Facilities

The Network Rail Leeds branch required a new MDU facility and Module-AR Limited were awarded the contract. This was due to our previous experience working with Network Rail, our Achilles RISQS accreditation and our enviable reputation for delivering excellent on time and on budget off-site modular buildings. Initially the project involved the demolition and removal of the old MDU existing facility and then the design, manufacture & installation of a new 12 No. module double storey building with external steel staircase took place.

The structure had to be secure, tough and hard wearing as 120 personnel use the building on a day to day basis. The external cladding & fascia were constructed from Plastisol (plastic coated steel), the external doors & canopy were made of steel and internally the building featured hard-wearing carpet tiles & vinyl flooring to ensure a long lifespan without maintenance issues.

The ground floor of the Network Rail Leeds building consists of a 51m² Locker room with 120 lockers, a Drying room with 120 more lockers, a Store room, Shower room, Corridor, Lobby, Stairwell and WC Facilities. On the first floor of the MDU facility is a large 139m² open plan Canteen area & Kitchen that has tables and seating to accommodate all 120 personnel.

Due to the site being situated closely to a live railway track, installing the modules in a short amount of time with minimal disruption was paramount to Network Rail. Module-AR Limited needed just 1 day to deliver the facility and a total of 10 weeks to complete the project. This quick completion time was imperative to Network Rail and with an off-site solution a project can be completed up to 50% faster than if it was constructed traditionally.
