Greig City Academy is a mixed-sex Secondary School and Sixth Form College within the English academy programme, in the London Borough of Haringey. The Academy were looking to expand their Sixth Form facilities however space around the grounds was limited and there as a result there was no room to build laterally without encroaching on the sports facilities & playground. Therefore Module-AR Limited were awarded the contract to provide a more creative solution in which a single storey modular structure was installed on top of the existing single storey building, along with a linkway incorporating an internal staircase and a low level access DDA Compliant lift back to the existing building, to be used as a Sixth Form common room.
The 7 modules were clad in Western Red Cedar with PCA (powder coated aluminium) windows, a white Plastisol (plastic coated steel) plinth & fascia and a mono-pitched roof to create a modern and stylish look. 5 No. roof lights were installed to maximise natural lighting and to create a more spacious atmosphere. Heat & Cool air conditioning, an enhanced 2.7m internal ceiling height and large feature windows were part of the interior finish to generate a creative and productive environment for the 6th Form students. The common room will feature large open-plan learning facilities, space for study and meeting rooms.
An 80t crane was used to lift the modules on to a purpose designed and built steel framed gantry which was completed in just 1 day – greatly minimising on-site traffic and disruption compared to a traditionally built structure. The Greig City Academy building was manufactured, installed and completed in just 13 weeks which meant students could occupy the facility as soon as possible.
