Drumbeat School and ASD 6th Form required a full Turnkey package from a contractor to design, manufacture and install a 2 storey SEN facility with an Independent Learning space for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder – which Module-AR Limited were awarded.
The building was clad with Western Red Cedar to create a modern & stylish look. Aluminium and timber composite double-glazed windows were installed with brise soleil to provide innovative solar shading to all south facing elevations. An internal roof access hatch with retractable ladder was installed, along with a Roof Mansafe System, which allows for safe access around the roof area for future maintenance. A lightning protection system was also fitted to comply with the criteria and recommendations of the BS EN 62305 Part 1 & 3 Protection.
The structure has a robust suspended steel floor construction throughout and consists of 2 No. 58m² Classrooms (fitted with storage, wet area and an interactive whiteboard), 2 no. Group rooms, an ICT room, Staff Workspace, large Lobby, Reception, Plant room, WC’s and a DDA compliant platform lift. On the second floor the building features a large 58m² Social Common room with interactive whiteboard, storage cupboards and sinks; 2 no. Group rooms, a Flexible Learning facility, fully-fitted Bathroom, fully-fitted Kitchen, a large Dining/Lounge area and WC’s. Finally, enhanced acoustic ceilings, walls and a SALTO Access Control System were also installed for the safety and security of the pupils and staff.
The full Turnkey solution, which included foundations & services, was manufactured off-site, installed and completed in just 16 weeks. This allowed the pupils of Drumbeat School to utilise the facility up to 50% sooner than if the building was constructed traditionally.
